The Watertown Area Swim club began in the early
1960’s as a summer park and recreational team. Soon after forming the club,
the Dolphin became the club mascot. The club participated in meets during the
summer time only until 1974 when the Watertown
Recreational Center
was built. The Rec-Center allowed the club to start hosting events and compete
year round.
In 1994 the Watertown School Board
unanimously voted to
recognize the lettered high school swimmers.
The club currently hosts 2 meets each year, the Candy Cane Invitational
swim meet in December, and the Optimist Big Apple swim meet in February. The
club also hosts either the C novice or State indoor short course meets during
some years.
Swimming is recognized as an excellent life long sport. Swimmers
can competitively swim beginning with the 8 and under age group on up to the
Masters program which includes ages 19 and above.
